Scenario 3

Step three: Develop an outline

The third step is to develop an outline
including an introduction, a body developed into three
or four paragraphs and a conclusion.
This can be done when your reading is finished and your notes
taken. Then, sort your notes for a subject matter. Remember that
an introduction begins with a thesis statement, a single sentence that presents the main idea of the report. Put a check mark by the three or four most important ideas and number them according to their importance (1, 2, 3, etc.) Next, set down under each main topic the supporting ideas that follow from them and note them by the letters: a, b, c, etc. Arrange the body paragraphs (the main ideas and the supporting ideas) in a natural, logical or chronological order. Let us look at the following outline.

THE TITLE

1. Introduction:  Thesis statement.

2. Body: Three (or four) paragraphs:

  1.  2.1  First paragraph: Main idea: (very important)
    1.  Supporting idea
    2.  Supporting idea
    3.  Supporting idea
  2.  2.2  Second paragraph: Main idea (important)
    1.  Supporting idea
    2.  Supporting idea
    3.  Supporting idea
  3.  2.3  Third paragraph: Main idea (the most important)
    1.  Supporting idea
    2.  Supporting idea
    3.  Supporting idea

3. Conclusion: The concluding statement.
